The Time Traveler’s Wife is a love story about two individuals who are brought together through an abnormal circumstance that inevitably comes with hardship because of Henry DeTamble’s Chrono-Displacement—-he time travels. Although many of the aspects of the plot are unusual, you find that there are some stereotypical feminine behaviors attributed to Clare and some stereotypical masculine behaviors attributed to Henry.
I found this novel to be a deep and compelling read. Audrey Niffenegger uniquely pulls together the destiny of these two souls as we feel very much in sync with their fate. As I continued to read, I could feel the tension and stress of this relationship. Normally, once a woman is wooed and pursued she no longer has to wait and finally is able to rest forever in the arms of her loved one, while Clare is constantly weary of Henry’s random disappearances. But once again , Niffenegger clashes the abnormal with the stereotypical because aside from the fact that Henry time travels, Clare’s ordeal is almost no different than if she married a soldier who would constantly be back and forth from his duty and his home life. Clare and Henry are very intimate and sex is highlighted part of the relationship. The Time Traveler’s Wife is an untraditional love story that represents the tribulation that any love must undergo in order to be proven unfeigned.
I bought this book because I saw a short preview of the movie and ever since I absolutely refused to watch the previews any time they would show. I thought after reading the book, I would want to watch the movie but I now have no desire to because there is no way they could make an excellent adaption. I am satisfied with the book as itself.
